Description
Round white marble bas-relief portrait medallion depicting the profile of a gentleman with wavy, curled hair and sideburns in the style of the mid-19th century. The subject in formal attire with a high collar and bow tie, characteristic of Second Empire fashion. The relief is surrounded by a simple raised border and mounted on a contemporary black iron stand. Unpolished and irregular to the reverse, showing signs of hand-finishing, with metal bracket for support. France, circa 1870.
