Description
A George III period satinwood veneered box with a domed lid and rectangular form. The front features two oval medallions inlaid with neoclassical urn motifs composed of various colored woods, displaying finely detailed marquetry typical of late 18th-century English decorative arts. The edges of the lid and front panel are accented by narrow filets of boxwood and tulipwood, delineating the box’s contours. A kite-shaped escutcheon surrounds a working lock accompanied by a key. The polished interior is finished in oak and remains unpartitioned. The reverse side is undecorated, emphasizing the subtle grain pattern and the warm tone of the satinwood veneer.
