Part of a set of eight, this lithograph depicts the Prunus Avium, commonly known as Wild Cherry; with spring blossoms and the ripening fruit, beautifully-rendered and scientifically accurate; characteristic of late 19th-century botanical illustration. Circa 1890 [1. Binomial nomenclature, the formal system of naming species of living things, was developed by Carl Linnaeus in the mid-18th century. Each species is assigned a unique two-part name: the genus name, which is capitalized, and the species name, which is not.
