Description
Rectangular sewing box veneered in porcupine quill with bone-inlaid borders. The pagoda-form lid with alternating panels of bone and horn in a radiating sunburst design, centered by an oval bone medallion with penwork decoration. The case with fine penwork etched bone borders and vertical quill decoration throughout. Interior compartmentalized with four lidded sections with turned ebony finials, etched bone inlay borders, and black buffalo horn edging. Sandalwood-lined interior with fitted compartments. The lid interior with a central panel bordered by bone inlay with an oval cartouche; with working lock and bun feet in buffalo horn. India circa 1850 for an English market.
