Description
A traveler’s box or “stage coach” document box of very fine quality. This box would ha e been firmly attached to a stable wooden surface using the large screws recessed on the left and right side walls, these extending downward allowing the box to be fastened down firmly while traveling. Fine gilt mountings (extending around each corner for extra protection), a large panel of tumbling block, cube marquetry on the very top inlaid with ebony, maple and plum wood. Rectangular panels of burr walnut on each side, each framed with plum wood and a thin strip of maple. Solid oak interior, working lock and key. Hand French polish.
