Campaign furniture strapped to a pack horse's back. c. 1853-6

At the time of the Crimean War (1853-1856), Heal’s illustrated in its officers’
catalogues an entire bedroom suite, including a bedstead, borse-hair mattress,
bolster, blankets, bed curtains, mahogany table, and chair, all designed to fit into
two trunks, weighing no more than 98 pounds, that formed a balanced load when
